Soulliefhebbers hebben hem tijdens het afgelopen North Sea Jazz Festival al kunnen bewonderen met een fantastische optreden. Jalen Ngonda groeide op in een familie van muziekliefhebbers uit Washington D.C. Zijn inspiratie kwam voor een groot deel uit de cd collectie van zijn vader waarin Motown artiesten als The Temptations, Mary Wells en Smokey Robinson And The Miracles een prominente plaats innamen. Daarnaast leerde hij ook verdienstelijk viool, gitaar en piano spelen. Zoals het een waar soulzanger betaamt, leerde hij het zingen in de kerk. Diezelfde kerk was zo onder de indruk van zijn stem dat er geld werd ingezameld om Jalen naar het Liverpool INstitute For The Performing Arts te sturen om zijn zangtalent verder te ontwikkelen. Op Come Around And Love Me is duidelijk te horen dat zijn liefde voor muziek in de vorige eeuw ligt. Dit resulteert in een schitterend album dat niet had misstaan in het Motown repertoire van het eind van de jaren 60.
